About Supervision

I am a qualified supervisor having originally qualified in 2012 with a Certificate in Supervision. Since then, I have completed an Advanced Certificate in Supervision (Level 6) in 2022 which included Telephone and Online Supervision to support my move to online work. It is recommended by BACP that if you provide counselling online, you should also have supervision online. My own supervision is online and works well. My model is Hawkins and Shohet's Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision. It integrates the relational and systemic aspects of supervision.

All counsellors should have regular supervision to ensure they are providing clients with a safe, ethical, and competent service. I believe the supervisor/supervisee relationship should be warm, trusting, respectful, and include challenge. A supervisor should be able to guide and help the professional development of the less experienced counsellor, creating a culture of openness to facilitate this, whilst also being able to meet the professional needs of an experienced counsellor.

I believe I provide both. From my own experiences with supervisors over the years, I know the benefit of having a positive, safe relationship with my supervisor. It is invaluable. Unfortunately, I have experienced poor supervision too and use my experiences of this to ensure that I regularly check with my supervisees that they are getting what they want from Supervision and that the relationship between us is working as it should be.
